This delightful dip is lovingly dedicated to my dear friend, Jess, who introduced it to me several years ago at a work potluck. The moment I tasted her divine creation, I knew I had to add it to our family’s cherished repertoire of appetizers. Now, during the Christmas season, we always prepare our signature cheesy olive dip. Emphatically, it has been affectionately named “Jess’s olive dip” in our household.
A Few Intriguing Olive Facts
Prepare to be amazed: olives are actually classified as fruit! Both green and black olives come from the same tree, but the difference lies in their ripening process. Black olives are allowed to linger on the tree longer, soaking in the sun and deepening their color to a rich, dark hue. This extended ripening results in a distinct nutrient profile and flavor. Black olives, being softer and sweeter, contain more oil and offer a higher iron content. They may also boast greater anti-inflammatory properties when compared to their green counterparts. On the flip side, green olives are known for their pronounced saltiness, a quality derived from a longer brining and curing process. With their firmer texture and slightly tangy flavor, green olives bring a unique zest to this cheesy olive dip. Is There Really A Difference Between Green And Black Olives?
This cheesy olive dip contains a generous mix of both green and black olives. Each of these contributes unique flavors and textures.
Cheesy Olive Dip Preparation, Servings, and Storage
This recipe for cheesy olive dip is super simple to prepare. It takes about ten minutes to chop the olives and toss all the ingredients into the crockpot. After cooking on low for one hour, this cheesy dip can serve up to 20 friends, making it a great appetizer to share at a party or potluck.
For dipping, consider a medley of crunchy accompaniments. Crackers and tortilla chips offer a delightful crunch that pairs wonderfully with the dip’s rich flavor. If you’re seeking a healthier option, crisp celery and sweet carrots provide a satisfying low-carb alternative.
Should you find yourself with any leftover dip (though that’s often a rarity!), simply transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. When it’s time to enjoy it again, cover it with a paper towel and microwave for 1-2 minutes, stirring before serving for optimal creaminess.
