Eleanor Francis Traditions was established to share traditional homemade meals that are easy to prepare, nutritious, cultural, and delicious. It is dedicated in honor of the two most influential people in our lives.
Who is Eleanor?
Eleanor, my grandmother, was born in 1920. She was born to immigrant German parents during the “greatest generation”. This generation is known for humility, family oriented, resilient, hard work ethics, and patriotism. She was a young girl that survived and learned from catastrophic events such as the Great Depression and World War 2.
Eleanor can best be described as a basic, loving, and faith filled farm wife. She lived for the family, worked hard to keep up the farm, and endured the struggles of life as a way to prosper and learn how to thrive in difficult times. Although not uncommon for the time period, she raised 13 children over the course of four decades. Eleanor was an amazing cook, baker, gardener, listener and particularly, an excellent advisor.
Who is Francis?
Francis is the middle name of my husband’s late grandfather. He was born in 1931, the silent generation. This generation is characterized as peacekeepers and having hushed political opinions.
He was a true family man of five children and a business owner with an astounding reputation and an undeniably kind heart. In particular, his faith in God was evident by the joyful smile that could always be seen on his face.
Although they have never met, Eleanor and Francis have many characteristics in common. Above all, faith and family being their main priority in life. There are so many skills and qualities that can be learned from these venerable people. They both worked hard to give the best to their family. Most importantly, they both had a wealth of knowledge and were willing to help wherever they were needed.
Our mission and goal
As for my husband and I, we come from a microgeneration known as the Xennials, doing our best to raise four healthy and versatile Alphas. It is important to me to teach them basic knowledge of where the healthiest foods come from, how to prepare healthy meals, and how nutrients effect our bodies. With this intention, Eleanor Francis Traditions was created to share the many delicious foods that we prepare for and with our family.
As a Registered Nurse, nutrition is a necessary component of development and healthy living. We try to use food as close to nature as possible. As little preservatives as possible, no seed oils, and no food dyes. We grow as much food as we possibly can in our suburban home and use various home food preservation techniques to extend the life of fresh food. As for me, I enjoy a wide variety of foods, except for beets—I just can’t eat them. When it comes to my favorite cultural cuisine, nothing beats the vibrant flavors and spices of Mexican food! We love to travel, taste new foods, discover quirky facts about different places, and soak up as much sunshine as possible wherever we happen to be.
Enjoy the simple things in life and make real homemade food!
