Homemade ranch dressing is by far tastier and healthier than store bought bottled ranch. The creaminess and flavor are beyond delicious. It is made with all natural ingredients. In fact, there are only four ingredients in this recipe, two of which are also homemade. The Ranch Seasoning and Mayonnaise recipes make this truly the best ranch dressing you’ve ever tasted. It is so creamy and fresh- there’s no going back to store bought!
Have you ever looked at the ingredients list of packaged ranch dressing? One bottle I saw had 21 ingredients, including soybean and canola oil, artificial flavors, MSG, and modified corn starch. There is also a list of chemical preservatives that are added to increase the shelf life of the product. Here is a brief article discussing the ingredients in bottled dressing: Beware the Bottled Dressing: Why store-bought dressings can sabotage your salad.
Homemade Ranch dressing Ingredients:
The four ingredients needed for homemade ranch dressing are ranch seasoning, mayonnaise, sour cream, and milk. The ranch seasoning is a shelf stable mixture that can be used to make dressing or added to other recipes. To make a jar of ranch seasoning, see: Ranch Seasoning. Mayonnaise is also a simple recipe to mix up in less than 5 minutes. It is all purpose mayonnaise and can be used in this recipe, other recipes or dressing that include mayonnaise, as well as a sandwich spread. Mayonnaise can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. Here are instructions on making the mayonnaise: Mayonnaise. The sour cream that I use in this recipe is Daisy® brand. It contains one ingredient- cultured cream. And lastly, milk. A good choice for milk is Organic Valley®.
Ranch Dressing Preparation, Yield, and Storage
Homemade ranch dressing is very simple to prepare and takes as little as five minutes. Even more, it can be stored in the glass jar it is mixed in. This recipe yields just over two cups of dressing, which can stay fresh in the refrigerator for about 10 days. Unfortunately, it cannot be frozen or canned for long term storage, as freezing will alter the texture of the dressing. Canning milk products is not recommended because of canning safety concerns.
