We’re excited to share our fifth pinwheel recipe, and just like the others, these buffalo chicken pinwheels are an absolute crowd-pleaser! Think of them as bite-sized rolled-up buffalo chicken dip—delicious and so easy to enjoy. They’re packed with juicy shredded chicken, creamy cheese, zesty ranch seasoning, tangy buffalo sauce, and a touch of crunch from carrots and celery.
All of the pinwheels that we make go fast in our house, but buffalo chicken pinwheels, in particular, were voted number one by the family!
Ingredients in Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels
Flour tortillas
You’ll want to use soft, homemade flour tortillas for this recipe! They’re super easy to make and freeze beautifully. I always make them in bulk so that they are ready to use when I need some quick pinwheels or wraps. They’re great because homemade tortillas are just a few simple ingredients, so no food additives or preservatives. Also, once you taste your own homemade tortillas, you won’t want anything else!
Cream Cheese
Cream cheese gives these buffalo chicken pinwheels and all pinwheels the creaminess. It is necessary to bind the tortilla in a roll shape and also tames the heat of the spicy buffalo sauce.
Mayonnaise
A little mayonnaise is an important blend into the cream cheese to help it stay creamy. It also keeps the cream cheese from hardening too much when the pinwheels are refrigerated.
Ranch Seasoning
Ranch seasoning brings a burst of flavor with its mix of herbs like garlic, onion, dill, chives, and parsley. Additionally, it is used in buffalo chicken dip, and so many other recipes to enhance the flavor. It’s worth having a jar full in your cabinet!
Cheddar cheese
Cheddar cheese is also a necessary addition because seriously, who doesn’t love cheese? Cheese makes everything better!
Carrot
Carrots add a nice crunch and a hint of sweetness, balancing the flavor just like they do with buffalo wings and ranch.
Celery
Celery adds a refreshing coolness and slightly bitter undertone. The addition of these vegetables also gives some extra nutrients!
Chicken
Of course we wouldn’t have buffalo chicken without the chicken. Shredded chicken works best because it is easiest to spread onto the tortillas and roll up with the other ingredients.
Franks Red Hot
Franks red hot original is the best to use in these buffalo chicken pinwheels. This is because it does not contain any additives or preservatives. In fact, it’s made with just five natural ingredients: cayenne peppers, vinegar, water, salt, and garlic powder.
Preparation, Servings, and Storage
Pinwheels are so easy to prepare and require zero cooking! Perfect when it is hot outside and you don’t want to run the oven. You will have more time to enjoy the beautiful sunshine because they only take about 15 minutes to mix up and roll. They’re great as an appetizer, lunch, or picnic treat; they’re mess-free, making them perfect for road trips. Planning a party? Prepare a colorful platter of different pinwheels for everyone to enjoy! This recipe yields 36 tasty pinwheels, giving you a vibrant platter of spicy buffalo chicken goodness. And the best part? You can keep them in the fridge for up to four days! Prepare them ahead of time for your gathering or pack them in your lunch for the week.
