Dutch apple pie pizza is a fun spin on dessert. It is loaded with fresh cut apples and topped with a crunchy streusel topping. The pizza crust is slightly sweeter than a regular pizza crust because there is just a bit of sugar and honey added to the dough. The apples are tender and coated with cinnamon spice.
Dutch apple pie has always been one of my favorite pies to make. The replacement of streusel instead of a top crust makes it more like an apple crisp.
Dutch apple pie pizza has mouths watering as soon as they saw it come out of the oven. It’s a hard concept to grasp for young people that they have to wait until after dinner to have dessert. Especially when you can smell the cinnamon and fresh baked apples.
Apple orchards are abundant here in Wisconsin, and we sure did pick our fill. We started with 80 pounds in September and thankfully, they store well in the basement refrigerator for about 5 months. We mostly pick Cortland and macintosh apples because they tend to be crisp enough to eat fresh and hold up well in baked goods. These apples also are perfect for homemade applesauce. We also make Apple Applesauce Muffins with these beautiful, fresh picked apples.
The icing on top of the Dutch apple pie pizza is just a simple white icing that is used with a variety of other baked goods.
Fresh, Refrigerating, and Freezing
Dutch apple pie pizza is most delicious fresh out of the oven, but if there are leftovers, it can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 4 days. It can even be frozen in a freezer bag, without the icing, for up to 3 months. Reheat the Dutch Apple Pie Pizza in the oven at 425°F for 10-15 minutes.
