This coleslaw is perfect for your Wisconsin Fish Fry at Home. It is slightly sweet, slightly tangy. Creamy coleslaw is a necessary addition! The recipe below is just enough for a small serving for each plate.

Ingredients and Health Benefits of Creamy Coleslaw

Cabbage is the main ingredient in creamy coleslaw. It is considered a superfood because of the fiber content, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Vitamin C, in particular, is important in boosting a strong immune system. Cabbage is completely fat free and very low in calories. There are two facts about cabbage that I find super interesting. One, it has been used throughout history to heal and prevent ulcers. This is due to the anti-inflammatory properties of the vitamins and antioxidants. Second, cabbage has also been used for centuries to cure hangovers. 13 Health Benefits of Cabbage – Farmers’ Almanac

Carrots, the sweet crunchy vegetable in creamy coleslaw contains a large amount of vitamin A. As mentioned in previous posts, Vitamin A is essential in protecting vision and supporting eye health. Along with other vegetables, carrots also contain fiber, which is beneficial for digestive health.

The mayonnaise used in this creamy coleslaw is a homemade all natural, easy to make mayonnaise. There are zero preservatives, food additives, or unnecessary ingredients. It is what makes this recipe so creamy and delightful.

Vinegar is the ingredient that gives, not only creamy coleslaw, but all coleslaw that tangy goodness. The addition of vinegar to foods goes under the process of fermentation. Fermentation produces natural probiotics, which when eaten, can greatly benefit digestive health.

Preparation, servings, and storage

Creamy coleslaw takes as little as five minutes to prepare. After mixing, let it chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld beautifully and the cabbage to soften slightly. This recipe makes four small servings, similar to the little portions served in in traditional supper clubs. It can easily be doubled for larger portions or more servings. For optimal freshness, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where they can last for up to two days, although it’s best enjoyed fresh.
