Dutch Apple Pie Pizza

This dutch apple pie pizza is generously topped with freshly cut apples and topped with a crunchy, crumbly streusel topping that adds texture and sweetness. The pizza crust itself presents a subtle sweetness. It is enhanced by the addition of just the right amount of sugar and honey to create a warm, soft bite. As the apples bake, they become tender, creating a fragrance of cinnamon spice that fills the kitchen.

For me, Dutch apple pie has always been a cherished recipe. Transforming it into a pizza brings a unique change. The sight of this golden-brown Dutch apple pie pizza emerging from the oven is enough to make anyone’s mouth water. Of course, it’s a challenging concept for the little ones to comprehend that dessert must wait until after dinner, especially when the scent of cinnamon and baked apples permeates the air. To top off this delightful pizza, a simple white icing is drizzled over the top. It provides just a hint of sweetness that complements the warm and spiced apples beautifully.

Fresh Picked Apples

Living in Wisconsin, where apple orchards are abundant, we take full advantage of the harvest season. In September, we happily harvested 80 pounds of apples. We store them in the cool basement refrigerator, keeping them fresh for up to five months. In particular, our favorites apples are Cortland and Macintosh apples. They are perfectly crisp, making them ideal for both snacking and baking. They also shine in homemade applesauce. Another recipe we use fresh apples in is our Apple Applesauce Muffins.

Servings and Storage of Dutch Apple Pie Pizza

When it comes to enjoying Dutch apple pie pizza, it is undeniably best when served hot and fresh out of the oven. However, if there happen to be any leftovers, they can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to four days. In addition, the pizza can also be frozen in a freezer bag for up to three months. Be sure to freeze without the icing. When you’re ready to indulge again, simply reheat the Dutch apple pie pizza in the oven at 425°F for 10 to 15 minutes.

Icing Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a stand mixer, combine water, yeast, and sugar. Allow a few minutes for the yeast to activate.

  • Place the dough onto the pizza pan.
  • Evenly spread the apple mixture on top of the pizza dough.
  • Sprinkle the streusel over the top of the apples.
  • Bake the Dutch apple pie pizza for 15-18 minutes, or until the bottom crust is brown and some of the apple filling is bubbling.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a cooling rack for at least 20 minutes before icing the top.
  • To make the icing, start by melting the butter in the microwave.
  • Add the vanilla, milk, and powdered sugar.
