Ingredients
 

  • 8 slices White bread
  • 1/2 pound Deli ham
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded

Béchamel Sauce

  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 4 tbsp Flour
  • cups Milk
  • 1/4 tsp Sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the broiler on high.
  • Place the bread slices on the sheet pan.
  • In a 1 quart saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes.
  • Slowly add the milk to the saucepan, whisking to combine the sauce.
  • Add the salt, pepper, and nutmeg to the sauce.
  • Continue to cook the béchamel sauce for 4-5 minutes, or until thickened.
  • Once the bechamel sauce has thickened, spread it generously on to each slice of bread.
  • Sprinkle the gruyere cheese onto each slice of bread.
  • Place the ham onto four of the slices of bread. The other four slices will be the tops of the sandwiches.
  • Broil for 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove the sheet pan from the oven and carefully place the top bread onto the sandwich with the cheesy side facing up.
  • Plate the sandwiches, cut in half, and serve immediately.
