- 8 slices White bread
- 1/2 pound Deli ham
- 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
Béchamel Sauce
- 4 tbsp Butter
- 4 tbsp Flour
- 1½ cups Milk
- 1/4 tsp Sea salt
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 1/8 tsp Nutmeg
Preheat the broiler on high.
Place the bread slices on the sheet pan.
In a 1 quart saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes.
Slowly add the milk to the saucepan, whisking to combine the sauce.
Add the salt, pepper, and nutmeg to the sauce.
Continue to cook the béchamel sauce for 4-5 minutes, or until thickened.
Once the bechamel sauce has thickened, spread it generously on to each slice of bread.
Sprinkle the gruyere cheese onto each slice of bread.
Place the ham onto four of the slices of bread. The other four slices will be the tops of the sandwiches.
Broil for 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove the sheet pan from the oven and carefully place the top bread onto the sandwich with the cheesy side facing up.
Plate the sandwiches, cut in half, and serve immediately.
